An apparatus includes a body and an outer cannula extending distally from the body along a longitudinal axis and fixedly secured to the body. The outer cannula includes a proximal portion having a first cross-dimension and a distal portion having a second cross-dimension smaller than the first cross-dimension. The distal portion is configured to guide the cylindrical proximal portion into a trocar port. The apparatus also includes an inner cannula slidably disposed in the outer cannula for translating longitudinally relative to the outer cannula. The inner cannula includes an open proximal end, an open distal end configured to pierce a retina of the eye, and a lumen extending between the open proximal end and the open distal end. The lumen is configured to communicate a fluid from the open proximal end to the open distal end for delivering the fluid into a subretinal region of the eye.
