Abstract
A medical device for removing a material from a hollow anatomical structure is provided. The device may include a shaft member. The device may include an expandable centering element near the distal end of the device. The device may include a macerator element either attached to the shaft or independent and freely moveable from the shaft. The device may include an aspiration lumen in for removal of material. The device may include a drive shaft attached to a motor and used to rotate the macerator element.

A system comprising:
- an intermediate shaft configured to be coaxially inserted into a lumen of an outer shaft and coaxially over an inner shaft, the intermediate shaft is configured to be uncoupled at a distal end from the outer shaft and the inner shaft, wherein the intermediate shaft is configured to be rotated relative to the outer shaft and the inner shaft;
- a helical macerator member at the distal end of the intermediate shaft;
- a vacuum configured to be in operative fluid communication with the lumen of the outer shaft, the helical macerator configured to operatively break up at least a portion of an undesirable material within the lumen of the outer shaft upon rotation of the intermediate shaft.
A system comprising:
- a macerator shaft configured to be coaxially inserted into a lumen of an aspiration cannula and coaxially over a guidewire, wherein a distal end of the macerator shaft is configured to be coaxially movable relative to the aspiration cannula and the guidewire and the macerator shaft is configured to be rotated clock-wise relative to the aspiration cannula and the guidewire;
- a helical macerator coupled at the distal end of the macerator shaft;
- a vacuum configured to be in operative fluid communication with the lumen of the aspiration cannula, the helical macerator configured to operatively break up at least a portion of an undesirable material within the lumen of the aspiration cannula upon clock-wise rotation of the macerator shaft.
A system comprising:
- a shaft configured to be coaxially inserted into a lumen of a cannula and coaxially over a guidewire, wherein a distal end of the shaft is configured to be coaxially movable in relation to the cannula and the guidewire and the shaft is configured to be rotated in a clock-wise direction in relation to the cannula and the guidewire;
- a macerator defined by a helical shape coupled to the distal end of the shaft;
- a source of aspiration configured to be in operative fluid communication with the lumen of the cannula, the macerator configured to operatively macerate at least a portion of an undesirable material within the lumen of the cannula upon movement of the macerator shaft.
