Configuring skipping of paging early indication in wireless communications

An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

• a transceiver;
• one or more memories configured to, individually or in combination, store instructions;
• and
• one or more processors communicatively coupled with the one or more memories, wherein the one or more processors are, individually or in combination, configured to execute the instructions to cause the apparatus to:
• generate, for a user equipment (UE), an indication of a skip duration of multiple discontinuous receive (DRX) cycles to skip in monitoring for a paging early indication (PEI) signal;
• and
• transmit, for the UE, the indication of the skip duration.

A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• receiving, from a network node, an indication of a skip duration of multiple discontinuous receive (DRX) cycles to skip in monitoring for a paging early indication (PEI);
• entering, at the UE, a reduced power state for the skip duration;
• and
• entering, at the UE, an increased power state after the skip duration to monitor for the PEI, a synchronization signal block (SSB), or one or more reference signals.
