Ultra-wideband positioning method for a positioning device arranged in a motor vehicle, a positioning device and a motor vehicle having same

A ultra-wideband positioning method for a positioning device arranged in a motor vehicle, the ultra-wide position method comprising:

• establishing, by the positioning device, a bidirectional ultra-wideband data communication between the positioning device and at least one ultra-wideband communication-enabled object approaching the motor vehicle;
• determining, by the positioning device using data packets exchanged using the bidirectional ultra-wideband data communication, first positions and first trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle;
• subsequently performing, by the positioning device, an ultra-wideband positioning and distance measurement;
• and
• determining, by the positioning device emitting at least one ultra-wideband transmission signal and detecting backscattered radio signals reflected back from the at least one object with a time delay, second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle,
• wherein the second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle are determined once the at least one object falls below a predetermined distance between the at least one object and the motor vehicle, wherein the predetermined distance is an approach zone surrounding the motor vehicle,
• wherein the positioning device determines the first trajectories using the first positions and determines the second trajectories using the second positions,
• wherein the first trajectories and the second trajectories are determined by a computing unit of the positioning device, and
• wherein future first positions are determined from the first trajectories and future second positions are determined from the second trajectories.

A positioning device comprising:

• at least one ultra-wideband transmission and receiving unit configured to emit and receive ultra-wideband radio signals;
• a computing unit configured to perform computing operations;
• and
• a computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions, which, when executed by the computing unit, cause the positioning device to
• establish a bidirectional ultra-wideband data communication between the positioning device and at least one ultra-wideband communication-enabled object approaching the motor vehicle;
• determine, using data packets exchanged using the bidirectional ultra-wideband data communication, first positions and first trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle;
• subsequently perform an ultra-wideband positioning and distance measurement;
• and
• determine, by the positioning device emitting at least one ultra-wideband transmission signal and detecting backscattered radio signals reflected back from the at least one object with a time delay, second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle,
• wherein the second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle are determined once the at least one object falls below a predetermined distance between the at least one object and the motor vehicle, wherein the predetermined distance is an approach zone surrounding the motor vehicle,
• wherein the positioning device determines the first trajectories using the first positions and determines the second trajectories using the second positions,
• wherein the first trajectories and the second trajectories are determined by a computing unit of the positioning device, and
• wherein future first positions are determined from the first trajectories and future second positions are determined from the second trajectories.

A motor vehicle comprising:

• a positioning device comprising
• at least one ultra-wideband transmission and receiving unit configured to emit and receive ultra-wideband radio signals;
• a computing unit configured to perform computing operations;
• and
• a computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions, which, when executed by the computing unit, cause the positioning device to
• establish a bidirectional ultra-wideband data communication between the positioning device and at least one ultra-wideband communication-enabled object approaching the motor vehicle;
• determine, using data packets exchanged using the bidirectional ultra-wideband data communication, first positions and first trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle;
• subsequently perform an ultra-wideband positioning and distance measurement;
• and
• determine, by the positioning device emitting at least one ultra-wideband transmission signal and detecting backscattered radio signals reflected back from the at least one object with a time delay, second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle,
• wherein the second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object relative to the motor vehicle are determined once the at least one object falls below a predetermined distance between the at least one object and the motor vehicle, wherein the predetermined distance is an approach zone surrounding the motor vehicle,
• wherein the positioning device determines the first trajectories using the first positions and determines the second trajectories using the second positions,
• wherein the first trajectories and the second trajectories are determined by a computing unit of the positioning device, and
• wherein future first positions are determined from the first trajectories and future second positions are determined from the second trajectories;
• an access system configured to lock, unlock, or actively open a vehicle door of the motor vehicle,
• wherein the positioning device is communicatively connected to the access system in and is configured to actuate the access system depending on the determined first positions and first trajectories of the at least one objector the determined second positions and second trajectories of the at least one object.
