Ethernet frame communication over synchronous communication network

A node for transmitting Ethernet frames over a plurality of nodes connected in a daisy-chain over full-duplex bus links, the node including a transceiver configured to:

• determine that the node has a transmit token;
• transmit an Ethernet frame within a tunnel on the full-duplex bus links at least one of an upstream direction towards a main-node or a downstream direction towards an end-sub-node;
• receive, while transmitting the Ethernet frame, a request for the transmit token from one or more other nodes in the tunnel on at least one of the full-duplex bus links in a direction opposite the Ethernet frame;
• and
• transmit the transmit token to a next node of the other nodes based on an order of priority of the one or more other nodes.

A communication system comprising:

• a plurality of nodes connected in a daisy-chain via respective bus links, wherein the plurality of nodes are configured for full-duplex, synchronized communication via a carrier-based modulation scheme over the bus links for transmission of superframes including a flexible payload, wherein to transmit Ethernet frames for an Ethernet tunnel among the plurality of nodes, a respective node of the Ethernet tunnel is configured to:
• determine, based on a programmable register, a media access control (MAC) address of the respective node within the daisy-chain;
• and
• transmit a plurality of superframes over one or both of an upstream full-duplex bus link or a downstream full-duplex bus link based on the MAC address of the node, wherein each superframe includes a portion of the Ethernet frame within a portion of the flexible payload assigned to the tunnel.
