Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality systems and methods

A method in a virtual, augmented, or mixed reality display system, the method comprising:

• using a display comprising one or more optical components which cause variations in brightness at different portions of the display;
• applying a plurality of different brightness correction values to a plurality of pixel values in image data to create corrected image data;
• and
• showing a user an image corresponding to the corrected image data on the display so as to reduce the brightness variations.

A virtual, augmented, or mixed reality display system comprising:

• a display comprising one or more optical components which cause image variations at different portions of the display;
• a light source having a plurality of sub-light sources;
• and
• a display controller configured to apply a plurality of different correction values to a plurality of pixel values in image data to create corrected image data,
• wherein each of the plurality of sub-light sources are linked to a respective region of the display, and
• wherein the display is configured to show a user an image corresponding to the corrected image data using light from the light source.
