Contextual Utterance Recommendations for Natural Language Interfaces that Support Conversational Visual Analysis

A computing device, comprising:

• a display;
• one or more processors;
• and
• memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
• in accordance with receiving a selection of a data source, performing an automated analysis of the data source;
• generating, by the computing device, one or more first natural language outputs in accordance with the automated analysis;
• displaying the one or more first natural language outputs in a graphical user interface;
• receiving user selection of a natural language output of the one or more first natural language outputs;
• and
• in response to receiving the user selection of the natural language output:
• generating a first data visualization according to the automated analysis, one or more data fields of the data source specified in the natural language output, and/or analytical operations specified in the natural language output;
• displaying the first data visualization in the graphical user interface;
• generating, by the computing device, one or more second natural language outputs, distinct from the one or more first natural language outputs;
• and
• displaying the one or more second natural language outputs in the graphical user interface.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:

• in accordance with receiving a selection of a data source, performing an automated analysis of the data source;
• generating, by the computing device, one or more first natural language outputs in accordance with the automated analysis;
• displaying the one or more first natural language outputs in a graphical user interface;
• receiving user selection of a natural language output of the one or more first natural language outputs;
• and
• in response to receiving the user selection of the natural language output:
• generating a first data visualization according to the automated analysis, one or more data fields of the data source specified in the natural language output, and/or analytical operations specified in the natural language output;
• displaying the first data visualization in the graphical user interface;
• generating, by the computing device, one or more second natural language outputs, distinct from the one or more first natural language outputs;
• and
• displaying the one or more second natural language outputs in the graphical user interface.
