Control of battery system temperature for high performance

A method of thermally controlling a battery system of a vehicle, comprising:

• receiving a request to put the vehicle into a high performance mode;
• based on the request, determining a temperature of the battery system and putting the vehicle into the high performance mode;
• determining a target battery temperature based on an environmental condition around the vehicle;
• and
• during operation of the vehicle in the high performance mode, automatically controlling the temperature of the battery system to maintain the temperature of the battery system proximate to the target battery temperature to optimize performance of the vehicle.

A vehicle system comprising:

• a memory having computer readable instructions;
• and
• a processing device for executing the computer readable instructions, the computer readable instructions controlling the processing device to perform a method including:
• receiving a request to put a vehicle into a high performance mode;
• based on the request, determining a temperature of a battery system of the vehicle and putting the vehicle into the high performance mode;
• determining a target battery temperature based on an environmental condition around the vehicle;
• and
• during operation of the vehicle in the high performance mode, automatically controlling the temperature of the battery system to maintain the temperature of the battery system proximate to the target battery temperature to optimize performance of the vehicle.
