An industrial robot including a base structure having an opening; a cover configured to fit in the opening; and an external seal bridging a gap between the base structure and the cover when the cover is fitted in the opening. The external seal forms within the gap a closed path entirely visible from a single perspective.

- a base structure having an opening;
- a lid configured to fit in the opening;
- and
- a static external seal bridging a gap between the base structure and the lid when the lid is fitted in the opening;
