Abstract
An implantable apparatus can be positioned in a body of a patient. The implantable apparatus can comprise a plurality of stimulation zones that are configured to provide tumor treating fields to a target site in one or a plurality of sequences that apply differential stimulation amplitudes and electric field directions relative to the target region in the body, thereby optimizing the treatment efficacy to kill tumor cells in a solid tumor or stray tumor cells in the peripheral area surrounding the tumor.
Claims19
An implantable apparatus for providing tumor treating fields (TTFields), the implantable apparatus comprising:
- a support structure;
- and
- a plurality of electrode arrays disposed on the support structure, wherein the plurality of electrode arrays comprise at least a first electrode array and a second electrode array that are aligned in a first direction,
- wherein each electrode array of the plurality of electrode arrays comprises a plurality of electrodes, wherein each electrode array of the plurality of electrode arrays comprises a central electrode and a plurality of electrodes circumferentially spaced around the central electrode,
- wherein the electrodes of each of the first and second electrode arrays are configured to be polarized in a plurality of polarization patterns, wherein, for each polarization pattern of the plurality of polarization patterns:
- the plurality of electrodes of the first electrode array comprise one or more electrodes arranged in a first pattern and configured to have a first polarity, wherein all remaining electrodes of the first electrode array are configured to have a second polarity opposite the first polarity;
- and
- the plurality of electrodes of the second electrode array comprise one or more electrodes arranged in the first pattern and configured to have the second polarity, wherein all remaining electrodes of the second electrode array are configured to have the first polarity.
