Plurality of Studs being Friction Welded to an Exterior Surface of a Storage Tank having a Block Patch and a Member between the Exterior Surface and the Studs

An apparatus comprising:

• a curved portion of a storage tank having an exterior surface, having an interior surface and having a defect;
• a steel patch positioned over the curved portion of the storage tank;
• and
• a plurality of studs and a plurality of nuts positioned near an outer perimeter of the steel patch, the plurality of studs being friction welded to the exterior surface of the curved portion of the storage tank.

An apparatus comprising:

• a curved portion of a storage tank having an exterior surface, having an interior surface and having a defect;
• a gasket positioned around the defect in the curved portion of the storage tank, the gasket having a length, a width and a thickness;
• a rigid patch positioned over the gasket, the rigid patch having a length and a width and a thickness;
• and
• a plurality of studs and nuts positioned near an outer perimeter of the rigid patch, the plurality of studs being friction welded to the exterior surface of the curved portion of the storage tank.
