Abstract

A medical system may include a user input device for controlling a medical instrument. The medical system may also include a sensor coupled to the user input device for generating information related to the user input device. The medical system may, while operating the user input device in an unassisted mode, identify drift of the user input device based on the information from the sensor and in accordance with identified drift, switch operation of the user input device from the unassisted mode to an assisted mode where the assisted mode may allow operation of the user input device based on a set of parameters distinct from a set of parameters used for the unassisted mode. Methods for operating a medical system that includes a user input device for controlling a medical instrument also disclosed herein.

Dependent claims

A medical system, comprising:

a user input device for controlling a medical instrument, wherein the user input device is operable in:
an unassisted mode with a first set of parameters for operation of the user input device;
and
an assisted mode with a second set of parameters, distinct from the first set of parameters, for operation of the user input device;
a sensor coupled to the user input device for generating information related to the user input device;
a processor;
and
memory storing instructions for execution by the processor, the stored instructions including instructions for:
while operating the user input device in the unassisted mode, identifying drift of the user input device based on the information from the sensor;
and
in accordance with identifying the drift, switching operation of the user input device from the unassisted mode to the assisted mode.
