Abstract
A hollow battery cell includes an enclosure including a top surface, a bottom surface, and side walls. A hollow center tube includes a side wall passing through at least one of the top surface and the bottom surface of the enclosure. A roll includes one or more electrodes and separators arranged between an outer surface of the hollow center tube and the enclosure.

A hollow battery cell, comprising:
- an enclosure including a top surface, a bottom surface, and side walls;
- a hollow center tube including a side wall passing through at least one of the top surface and the bottom surface of the enclosure;
- and
- a roll including one or more electrodes and separators arranged between an outer surface of the hollow center tube and the enclosure.

A method for manufacturing a hollow battery cell, comprising:
- at least one of extruding and stamping an enclosure including a top surface that is open, a side wall, and a bottom surface that is closed;
- at least one of extruding and stamping a hollow center tube including a side wall and a cavity between the side wall;
- forming a hole in the bottom surface of the enclosure;
- winding a roll of electrode and separator layers around a hollow center tube;
- inserting the roll and the hollow center tube into the enclosure;
- attaching the hollow center tube to the bottom surface;
- and
- attaching a top cap to the side walls over the top surface.

A method for manufacturing a hollow battery cell, comprising:
- at least one of extruding and stamping an enclosure including a top surface that is open, a side wall, and a bottom surface that is closed;
- at least one of extruding and stamping a hollow center tube including a side wall and a cavity between the side wall;
- winding a roll of electrode and separator layers around a hollow center tube;
- inserting the roll and the hollow center tube into the enclosure;
- laser sealing an end of the hollow center tube to the bottom surface;
- and
- attaching a top cap to the side walls and an opposite end of the hollow center tube over the top surface.
