Providing transit alternatives based on monitored vehicle characteristics

A method comprising:

• receiving, from an auxiliary computing device disposed in a vehicle, one or more performance parameters of the vehicle, the one or more performance parameters measured by the auxiliary computing device using information obtained by one or more sensors of a mobile computing device while the vehicle is in operation, the information configured to be wirelessly transmitted from the mobile computing device to the auxiliary computing device via a first wireless link, the one or more performance parameters received from the auxiliary computing device via a second wireless link;
• receiving journey information;
• determining a difference between a route via the vehicle and an alternative transport route via a mode of alternative transport using the journey information, one or more route parameters, and the one or more performance parameters;
• and
• generating a graphical user interface for presentation on the mobile computing device, the graphical user interface indicating the difference.

A non-transitory computer program product storing instructions that, when executed by at least one programmable processor forming part of at least one computing system, cause the at least one programmable processor to perform operations comprising:

• receiving, from an auxiliary computing device, a performance parameter of a vehicle, the performance parameter measured by the auxiliary computing device using information obtained by one or more sensors of a mobile computing device, the information configured to be wirelessly transmitted from the mobile computing device to the auxiliary computing device via a first wireless link, the performance parameter received from the auxiliary computing device via a second wireless link;
• receiving journey information;
• determining a difference between a route via the vehicle and an alternative transport route via a mode of alternative transport using the journey information, a route parameter, and the performance parameter;
• and
• generating a graphical user interface for presentation on the mobile computing device, the graphical user interface indicating the difference.
