Smart contact lens with waveguide display and focusing system

Abstract

The AR/VR enabled smart contact lens (SCL) system comprising a waveguide electro-optical display/projector component embedded into the substrate of the contact lens. Whereas, waveguide electro-optical component further consists of, at least, projector, input grating and out coupling grating designed to project light into the retina of the eye and corresponding method of operation of such system are disclosed. Furthermore, the imagery projected by such a display into the eye is with regards to 2D or 3D frame of reference enabling the user to refocus and accommodate on different parts of an image with respect to the relevant frame of reference. The display hereby proposed is a wide field of view waveguide display.
