Abstract

A continuous vacuum distillation system for separating one or more components of a multi-component composition by distillation, including a plurality of distillation columns, including a stripping column and a rectification column, wherein at least some of the distillation columns are configured according to an indirect split arrangement of coupled sections. In some embodiments, a near steady-state pressure condition operating range of 15 mmHg to 85 mmHg is obtained, with an operating temperature of less than 100° F., where the a near steady-state condition includes a nearly unchanged pressure condition across multiple stages. In some embodiments, processing across all stages occurs as a closed system.

Dependent claims

A continuous vacuum distillation system for separating one or more components of a multi-component composition by distillation, the system comprising:

(i) a plurality of distillation columns comprising a stripping column and a rectification column, wherein at least a portion of the plurality of distillation columns are configured according to an indirect split arrangement of the coupled sections;
(ii) a plurality of condensers;
(iii) a plurality of separators;
(iv) a packing;
(v) a plurality of liquid distributors;
(vi) a plurality of reflux controllers;
(vii) a pressure sensor control;
(viii) a vacuum pressure control valve operable to maintain a near steady-state pressure condition;
(ix) a feed;
(x) a feed pipe;
(xi) a feed flowmeter;
(xii) a feed control valve positioned downstream of the feed flowmeter;
and
(xiii) a pressure sensor proximal to the furthest downstream condenser inlet.
