Abstract
A telecom system is disclosed with a laser controlled by an acousto-optic deflector including an optical element having a surface with one or more steps formed thereon; a conductive layer formed on the surface with the steps; one or more crystals secured to each step; and electrodes positioned on each surface of each crystal.
Claims19
A telecommunication system, comprising:
- a laser to generate an optical beam;
- lens coupled to the laser;
- a phased array acousto-optic device configured to modulate the optical beam according to an input signal, the device having an optical element having a surface with one or more steps formed thereon;
- a conductive layer formed on the surface with the steps;
- one or more crystals secured to each step;
- and electrodes positioned on each surface of each crystal;
- and
- a controller coupled to the phased array acousto-optic device to control the laser beam and communicate data over the laser beam.
5 more elements
A method to communicate data, comprising:
- receiving data and generating a laser beam responsive to the data;
- applying the laser beam to an optical element having one or more steps each with a predetermined height and one or more crystals or transducers on the one or more steps;
- impedance matching the electrical input of the transducers to a predetermined load;
- providing an electrical input to deflect the laser at the two or more frequencies;
- generating a sound field in the optical element to deflect a laser beam based on two or more frequencies;
- and
- communicating data with the laser beam over a fiber optic cable.
