Abstract
A system for efficient combustion of a carbonaceous fuel is presented. An ultra low quantity of enhancement gas may be introduced to an internal combustion engine to improve at least one operating metric of the internal combustion engine such as fuel economy and/or reduce engine-out emissions, for example in a vehicle or generator.
Claims20
A method for improving at least one operating metric of an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- (i) introducing enhancement gas in the range of 1.25-30 liters per hour per liter of displacement of the internal combustion engine;
- and
- (ii) combusting a quantity of a carbonaceous fuel in the presence of the introduced enhancement gas to improve said at least one operating metric of the internal combustion engine.
A method for operating an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- generating a quantity of enhancement gas at least in part by electrolyzing water, the generated quantity in the range of 1.25-30 liters of enhancement gas per hour per liter of displacement of the internal combustion engine;
- introducing the generated quantity of enhancement gas into an air stream supply of the internal combustion engine;
- and
- combusting a quantity of a carbonaceous fuel in the presence of the introduced enhancement gas to cause an improvement in at least one operating metric of the internal combustion engine when compared to an absence of the introduced enhancement gas.
1 more element
An apparatus, comprising an assembly configured at least to:
- (i) introduce in the range of 1.25-30 liters of enhancement gas per hour per liter of displacement of an internal combustion engine;
- and
- (ii) facilitate combustion of a quantity of a carbonaceous fuel in the presence of the introduced enhancement gas to improve at least one operating metric of the internal combustion engine.
