Abstract
A device and method for analyte detection and analytes in a particulate bearing fluid such as whole blood having an instrument for partitioning the particles from the fluid that is integrated with a detector for analyses of one or more particulate bearing fluid analytes while the particles in the particulate bearing fluid are partitioned.

A method performed using an apparatus comprising a fluid channel and one or more acoustic transducers, the method comprising:
- receiving, in the fluid channel, whole blood from a fluid flow path, the whole blood comprising plasma and blood cells;
- applying, using the one or more acoustic transducers, acoustic force to the whole blood to form layers comprising (i) a first layer comprising plasma and that is substantially free of the blood cells and (ii) second layers comprising blood cells, the first layer being between the second layers, and each of the second layers being between a surface of the fluid channel and the first layer;
- and
- determining a presence of an analyte in the first layer based on detection performed using an optical detector that is located in an optical path to the fluid channel, the detection being performed while fluid flow within the fluid channel is arrested.
An apparatus for performing the method of claim 1, the apparatus comprising:
- the fluid channel;
- and
- the one or more acoustic transducers integrated with the fluid channel.
A method performed using an apparatus comprising a fluid channel and one or more acoustic transducers, the method comprising:
- receiving, in the fluid channel, whole blood from a fluid flow path, the whole blood comprising plasma and blood cells;
- applying, using the one or more acoustic transducers, acoustic force to the whole blood to form layers comprising (i) first layers comprising the plasma that are substantially free of the blood cells, the first layers being between a surface of the fluid channel and a center of the fluid channel, and (ii) a second layer comprising the blood cells, the second layer being between the first layers;
- determining a presence of an analyte in a first layer of the first layers based on detection performed using an optical detector that is located in an optical path to the fluid channel, the detection being performed while fluid flow within the fluid channel is arrested.
