Abstract
A method of electrically insulating a conductive component for an electric machine includes applying a first dielectric material, by dispersion coating, to the conductive component to define a first dielectric coating. The method also includes applying a second dielectric material, by electrostatic coating, to define a second dielectric coating. The first dielectric coating and the second dielectric coating can then be cured.
Claims20
A method of electrically insulating a conductive component for an electric machine, the method comprising:
- applying a dispersion coating of a first dielectric material to the conductive component to form a first dielectric coating;
- applying an electrostatic coating of a second dielectric material to the conductive component to form a second dielectric coating;
- and
- curing the first dielectric coating and the second dielectric coating.
A method of coating a variable cross-section coil for an electric machine, the method comprising:
- additively manufacturing a variable cross-section coil, wherein at least one turn of the variable cross-section coil includes a first surface and a second surface, wherein a cross-section of the at least one turn varies from the first surface to the second surface;
- applying a dispersion coating of a first dielectric material to the variable cross-section coil to form a first dielectric coating;
- applying an electrostatic coating of a second dielectric material to the variable cross-section coil to form a second dielectric coating, wherein the second dielectric coating couples to the first dielectric coating;
- and
- curing the dispersion coating and the electrostatic coating.
