An aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium; and wherein n is four to five times greater than m. The aqueous orthosilicate solution is made by adding silicon particles of less than about 3 cm and water to a pressure vessel followed by adding a molar excess of alkali caustic to the pressure vessel containing the silicon particles. The temperature in the vessel is maintained not to exceed about 190° F. while an aqueous orthosilicate solution is formed. Upon cooling the formed aqueous orthosilicate solution is recovery. Aluminum or CuO can be added during the initial heating.
An aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium;
A method for making an orthosilicate solution, which comprises the steps of:
A method of killing mold and mildew on surfaces, comprising treating the mold and mildew surface with an aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising:
A method for treating wood surfaces, which comprises applying to the wood surface an aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium, and wherein n is four to five times greater than m.
A method for treating brown grease and other fats, oils, and greases (FOG) grease containing free fatty acids for further processing of the brown grease comprises adding to the brown grease an aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium, and wherein n is four to five times greater than m, for diminishing the free fatty acids in the brown grease.
A method for treating wastewater containing dissolved metals for their removal comprising adding to the wastewater an aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium, and wherein n is four to five times greater than m.
A method for treating wastewater containing ammonium for its removal comprising adding to the wastewater an aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium, and wherein n is four to five times greater than m.
A method for tanning animal hides for removal of animal hair comprising replacing CaO in a tanning composition with an aqueous orthosilicate solution comprising m[SiO44−]+nX1+ in an aqueous solution wherein X is an alkali metal cation selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium, and wherein n is four to five times greater than m.
