Bi-directional spring filter

A filter assembly comprising:

• a main body having a bore therein forming an inner surface, the inner surface configured with a receptacle;
• a filter medium disposed at least partially in the receptacle, the filter medium comprising a plurality of windings, an at least one of the plurality of windings separated by a clearance to an adjacent winding;
• and
• a head adapter coupled with the main body, the head adapter configured with a plug engaged with the filter medium,
• wherein the filter medium has a compressed position and a decompressed position, and in the compressed position the clearance has a clearance gap range between at least 5,000 microinches to no more than 20,000 microinches, and
• wherein an annulus is formed between the inner surface and the filter medium.

A fluid filtration system comprising:

• a pump;
• a motor;
• and
• a filter assembly coupled in fluid communication between the pump and the motor, the filter assembly further comprising:
• a main body having a bore therein forming an inner surface, the inner surface configured with a receptacle;
• a filter medium disposed at least partially in the receptacle, the filter medium comprising a plurality of windings, an at least one of the plurality of windings separated by a clearance to an adjacent winding;
• and
• a head adapter coupled with the main body, the head adapter configured with a plug engaged with the filter medium.
