Systems and methods for handling communications during user operation of a motor vehicle

A computer-implemented method for handling communications using a mobile device while a user operates a motor vehicle, the mobile device including a communication channel configured to receive telematics data associated with the motor vehicle, a wireless communication interface configured to receive wireless communication from a remote device, at least one processor coupled to the wireless communication interface and the communication channel, the computer-implemented method comprising:

• receiving, via the communication channel, the telematics data associated with the motor vehicle;
• determining that the user is currently traveling on a trip based upon the telematics data;
• receiving a wireless communication from the remote device;
• and
• in response to determining that the user is currently traveling on the trip, suppressing notification of the wireless communication until completion of the trip.

At least one non-transitory computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon, wherein when executed by a mobile device including a communication channel configured to receive telematics data associated with a motor vehicle, a wireless communication interface configured to receive wireless communication from a remote device, at least one processor coupled to the wireless communication interface and the communication channel, the computer-executable instructions cause the at least one processor to:

• receive, via the communication channel, the telematics data associated with the motor vehicle;
• determine that a user is currently traveling on a trip based upon the telematics data;
• receive a wireless communication from the remote device;
• and
• in response to determining that the user is currently traveling on the trip, suppress notification of the wireless communication until completion of the trip.
