Security system for electronic devices connected to a vehicle

A vehicle comprising:

• a security system comprising:
• an electronic device;
• a first mating connector one of:
• integrated with the electronic device, and
• connected by conductors and the first mating connector to the electronic device,
• wherein the first mating connector includes a security integrated circuit configured to perform authentication;
• a second mating connector;
• and
• a host controller connected by the second mating connector to the electronic device and the first mating connector to the security integrated circuit and the electronic device,
• wherein the host controller is configured to communicate with the security integrated circuit to authenticate the electronic device
• at least one of a vehicle control module and a powertrain control module,
• wherein, after the electronic device has a predetermined number of failed authentication attempts, the host controller is configured to send a message to the at least one of the vehicle control module and the powertrain control module to reduce performance of the vehicle.

A vehicle, comprising:

• a security system comprising:
• an electronic device;
• a first mating connector one of:
• integrated with the electronic device, and
• connected by conductors and the first mating connector to the electronic device,
• wherein the first mating connector includes a security integrated circuit configured to perform authentication;
• a second mating connector;
• and
• a host controller connected by the second mating connector to the electronic device and the first mating connector to the security integrated circuit and the electronic device,
• wherein the host controller is configured to communicate with the security integrated circuit to authenticate the electronic device;
• and
• at least one of a vehicle control module and a powertrain control module,
• wherein, after the electronic device has a predetermined number of failed authentication attempts, the host controller is configured to send a message to the at least one of the vehicle control module and the powertrain control module to alter operation of the vehicle.
