Electronic Devices and Corresponding Methods for Adjusting Playback Characteristics as Audible Alerts

An electronic device, comprising:

• an audio output;
• and
• one or more processors operable with the audio output;
• wherein, in response to the one or more processors detecting a trigger event occurring while the audio output delivers audio content, the one or more processors adjust an audio characteristic of an audio alert that is different from another audio characteristic of the audio content prior to causing the audio output to deliver the audio alert.

A method in an electronic device, the method comprising:

• detecting, by one or more processors of the electronic device, an operating context of the electronic device;
• altering, by the one or more processors, one or more of a source file of an audio alert or a playback characteristic of the audio alert as a function of the operating context;
• and
• delivering, by an audio output, the audio alert in response to detecting an audio output triggering event.
