Systems and Methods for NextG Edge Computing Orchestration

A method of managing application offloading in a versatile elastic edge compute (vEEC) system, comprising:

• monitoring, by a processor in an edge computing device, performance of a plurality of edge computing nodes (ECNs) against predefined key performance indicator (KPI) targets;
• receiving, by the processor, a notification from a vEEC agent indicating a service issue in an ECN in the plurality of ECNs failing to meet said KPI targets;
• determining, by the processor, whether an alternative ECN within a local group of ECNs may effectively run an application or function originally assigned to the ECN experiencing the service issue or failing to meet the KPI targets;
• extending, by the processor, the search to ECNs in external groups in response to determining that there are no suitable alternative ECN within the local group;
• receiving, by the processor, confirmation of the availability and suitability of an ECN in an external group to run the application or function;
• coordinating, by the processor, the offloading of the application or function from the original ECN to the identified alternative ECN in the external group;
• and
• reassigning, by the processor, the application or function to the identified alternative ECN.

A non-transitory processor readable media having stored thereon processor-executable instructions configured to cause a processor in an edge computing device perform operations for managing application offloading in a versatile elastic edge compute (vEEC) system, the operations comprising:

• monitoring the performance of a plurality of edge computing nodes (ECNs) against predefined key performance indicator (KPI) targets;
• receiving a notification from a vEEC agent indicating a service issue in an ECN in the plurality of ECNs failing to meet said KPI targets;
• determining whether an alternative ECN within a local group of ECNs may effectively run an application or function originally assigned to the ECN experiencing the service issue or failing to meet the KPI targets;
• extending the search to ECNs in external groups in response to determining that there are no suitable alternative ECN within the local group;
• receiving confirmation of the availability and suitability of an ECN in an external group to run the application or function;
• coordinating the offloading of the application or function from the original ECN to the identified alternative ECN in the external group;
• and
• reassigning the application or function to the identified alternative ECN.
