Fiber optic/electrical connection system

A connector comprising:

• a connector housing adapted to receive a first and second electrical conductor and one or more optical fibers of a telecommunications cable, the connector housing defining a distal end plug portion;
• a ferrule mounted to the plug portion for terminating the one or more optical fibers of the telecommunications cable, wherein the ferrule is biased by a spring to enable the ferrule to shift along a central longitudinal axis of the connector housing;
• a first and second electrical contact attached to the plug portion for respectively terminating the first and second electrical conductors of the telecommunications cable;
• a sealing member mounted around the connector housing;
• and
• a rotatable coupler mounted around the connector housing.

A fiber optic and electrical connection system, comprising:

• a connector, comprising:
• a) a connector housing adapted to receive a first and second electrical conductor and one or more optical fibers of a telecommunications cable, the connector housing defining a distal end plug portion;
• b) a ferrule mounted to the plug portion for terminating the one or more optical fibers of the telecommunications cable;
• c) a first and second electrical contact attached to the plug portion for respectively terminating the first and second electrical conductors of the telecommunications cable;
• d) a sealing member mounted around the connector housing;
• and
• e) a rotatable coupler mounted around the connector housing;
• and
• an adapter defining a mating interface configured to align with the plug portion of the connector housing, enabling connection with the terminated optical fibers and the first and second electrical conductors when the connector is received by the adapter.

A method of manufacturing a fiber optic and electrical connector, comprising:

• providing a connector housing having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end is adapted to receive a first electrical conductor and a second electrical conductor of a telecommunications cable, and wherein the distal end defines a plug portion;
• mounting a ferrule to the plug portion to terminate at least one optical fiber of the telecommunications cable;
• attaching a first electrical contact and a second electrical contact to the plug portion to respectively terminate the first and second electrical conductors of the telecommunications cable;
• mounting a sealing member around the connector housing;
• and
• mounting a rotatable coupler around the connector housing.
