Abstract
The present invention, in some embodiments, generally relates to methods of determining a treatment protocol for and/or a prognosis of a patient's recovery from a brain injury resulting from a hypoxic event. In some embodiments, methods are provided for determining a measure of the concentration of beta-amyloid peptide in a patient sample containing or suspected of containing beta-amyloid peptide.

A method of improving computer implemented analysis of patient data for determining a prognosis for a neurological condition, comprising a computer implemented method for determining a series of beta-amyloid profile parameters predictive of a prognosis for a patient's recovery from the neurological condition, from a data set obtained from performing an assay on a plurality of blood samples from the patient;
- the assay comprising:
- performing an assay on each of a plurality of blood samples obtained from the patient suspected of having the neurological condition and/or plasma and/or serum derived from each of the blood samples to determine a measure of a beta-amyloid peptide concentration in the sample, wherein a collection of beta-amyloid peptide molecule concentrations as a function of collection time for the plurality of samples comprises the data set;
- wherein the assay comprises spatially segregating and detecting single beta-amyloid peptide molecules,
- wherein the limit of detection of beta-amyloid peptide of the assay is less than about 0.2 pg/mL;
- wherein the computer implemented method for determining a series of beta-amyloid profile parameters comprises:
- generating from the data set:
- Profile Parameter (1):
- a magnitude of rise in beta-amyloid peptide concentration;
- Profile Parameter (2):
- a duration of rise of beta-amyloid peptide concentration;
- and
- Profile Parameter (3):
- a ratio of the peak beta-amyloid peptide concentration to a minimum beta-amyloid peptide concentration;
- and
- wherein the method of improving computer implemented analysis of patient data for determining a prognosis for the neurological condition comprises:
- (a) computing an overall beta-amyloid score based on values of Profile Parameters (1)-(3) by combining all three values of the Profile parameters (1)-(3), and
- (b) implementing the beta-amyloid score for determining a prognosis for the patient for the neurological condition.
