Battery with battery management system for engine start applications

A battery, comprising:

• at least one battery housing;
• at least one battery cell positioned in the at least one battery housing:
• at least one battery management system configured to control aspects of use of the battery, wherein the at least one battery management system comprises:
• at least one controller coupled to the at least one battery;
• wherein the at least one controller is configured to protect the battery by placing at least one battery cell of the battery in an under voltage protection mode once the controller determines a voltage of the at least one battery cell is less than or equal to an under voltage protection reference voltage;
• and
• wherein the controller automatically disengages the under voltage protection mode upon detection of an engine start attempt made on the battery to enable an engine start to be made.

A battery, comprising:

• at least one battery housing;
• at least one battery cell positioned in the at least one battery housing:
• at least one battery management system configured to control aspects of use of the battery, wherein the at least one battery management system comprises:
• at least one controller coupled to the at least one battery cell;
• wherein the at least one controller is configured to control charging and discharge of each at least one battery cell of the battery individually;
• and
• wherein the controller enables, while controlling the battery in under voltage protection mode, a voltage of the battery to exist across posts of the battery without suspending the under voltage protection mode.
