Abstract
A firefighting foam concentrate having a sugar component including a monosaccharide sugar, a sugar alcohol, or a mixture of any two or more thereof; a surfactant component comprising an anionic surfactant, a zwitterionic surfactant, or a mixture of any two or more thereof; and a suspension agent including microfibrillated cellulose and an oligosaccharide, a polysaccharide, or a mixture of any two or more thereof; wherein the composition is substantially free of fluorinated compounds.
Claims20
A firefighting foam concentrate comprising:
- a sugar component comprising a monosaccharide sugar, a sugar alcohol, or a mixture of any two or more thereof;
- a surfactant component comprising an anionic surfactant, a zwitterionic surfactant, or a mixture of any two or more thereof;
- and
- a suspension agent comprising:
- microfibrillated cellulose;
- and
- an oligosaccharide, a polysaccharide, or a mixture of any two or more thereof;
- wherein the composition is substantially free of fluorinated compounds.
A method of making a firefighting foam concentrate, the method comprising:
- activating a suspension agent comprising a microfibrillated cellulose and an oligosaccharide, a polysaccharide, or a mixture of any two or more thereof by mixing the suspension agent with water under shear conditions sufficient to cause the microfibrillated cellulose fibers to produce a three-dimensional network;
- wherein the firefighting foam concentrate comprises:
- a sugar component comprising a monosaccharide sugar, a sugar alcohol, or a mixture of any two or more thereof;
- a surfactant component comprising an anionic surfactant, a zwitterionic surfactant, or a mixture of any two or more thereof;
- and
- the activated suspension agent;
- wherein the firefighting foam concentrate is substantially free of fluorinated compounds.
