Abstract
In particular embodiments, method, apparatus and system for receiving digital representations of the initial parameters of a dentition; simulating a first orthodontic treatment process on the digital representations of the initial parameters, displaying a set of output results from the simulation of the first orthodontic treatment process, simulating a second orthodontic treatment process on the output results from the simulation of the first orthodontic treatment process, and displaying a set of output results from the simulation of the second orthodontic treatment process are provided.

A method of generating a dental appliance model for moving a patient's teeth, comprising:
- receiving an initial digital model of an aligner having a first shape to move teeth of a patient from a first arrangement towards a second arrangement;
- receiving digital representations of the teeth of the patient in a first arrangement, wherein the digital representations comprise a digital set of teeth that is digitally cut to represent individual tooth crowns in the first arrangement;
- generating a composite model of the initial digital model of the aligner having the first shape applied to the digital representations of the teeth of the patient in a first arrangement;
- simulating a force applied by the aligner having the first shape to the digital representations of the teeth of the patient in a first arrangement;
- determining movement of the teeth of the patient based on the simulation;
- comparing the movement of the teeth of the patient based on the simulation to the second arrangement;
- and
- generating an updated digital model of an aligner having a second shape to move the teeth of the patient from the first arrangement towards the second arrangement, based on the comparing.
A system of generating a dental appliance model for moving a patient's teeth, comprising:
- a computing device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- memory comprising instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the one or more processors configured to perform a method comprising:
- receiving an initial digital model of an aligner having a first shape to move teeth of a patient from a first arrangement towards a second arrangement;
- receiving digital representations of the teeth of the patient in a first arrangement, wherein the digital representations comprise a digital set of teeth that is digitally cut to represent individual tooth crowns in the first arrangement;
- generating a composite model of the initial digital model of the aligner having the first shape applied to the digital representations of the teeth of the patient in a first arrangement;
- simulating a force applied by the aligner having the first shape to the digital representations of the teeth of the patient in a first arrangement;
- determining movement of the teeth of the patient based on the simulation;
- comparing the movement of the teeth of the patient based on the simulation to the second arrangement;
- and
- generating an updated digital model of an aligner having a second shape to move the teeth of the patient from the first arrangement towards the second arrangement, based on the comparing.
