Actuated clot retrieval catheter

A method of retrieving an occlusive thrombus from a blood vessel of a patient, the method comprising:

• delivering a catheter comprising a frame to a target site, the frame comprising a first portion and a second portion, the first portion comprising a first shape memory material and the second portion comprising a second shape memory material;
• delivering a first current to the first portion of the frame;
• heating, via the first current, the first portion to above its transition temperature to cause the first portion to change from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration;
• delivering a second current to the second portion of the frame;
• and
• heating, via the second current, the second portion of the frame to above its transition temperature to cause the second portion to change from an expanded configuration to a collapsed configuration and upon the occlusive thrombus.

A method of manufacturing an actuated clot retrieval system, the method comprising:

• heat setting a first shape memory material into a first frame portion having an expanded configuration;
• allowing the first shape memory material to cool and the first frame portion to collapse into a collapsed configuration;
• connecting the first frame portion to a first end of a first conductive wire disposed within a catheter wall of a catheter;
• connecting a second end of the first conductive wire to an electronic circuit;
• heat setting a second shape memory material into a second frame portion having a collapsed configuration;
• allowing the second shape memory material to cool;
• connecting the second frame portion to a first end of a second conductive wire disposed within the catheter wall;
• connecting a second end of the second conductive wire to the electronic circuit;
• and
• applying a membrane to at least the first frame portion and to a distal end of the catheter.
