Software-Defined Device Tracking in Network Fabrics

A method comprising:

• receiving, by an orchestrator of a network fabric, information indicating a fabric edge device to which an endpoint is connected;
• receiving, by the orchestrator and from a control center associated with the endpoint, instructions to onboard the endpoint;
• transmitting, by the orchestrator, a notification to the fabric edge device to onboard the endpoint into the network fabric;
• and
• triggering, at least in part by receipt of the notification and at the fabric edge device, an onboarding of the endpoint into the network fabric.

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving, by one or more processors of an orchestrator of a network fabric, port information indicating a port of a fabric edge device to which an endpoint is connected;
• transmitting, by the one or more processors of the orchestrator, the port information to a network node in the network fabric enabling data-plane traffic inspection;
• detecting, by one or more processors of the network node and using the port information, traffic having a destination address corresponding to the endpoint;
• transmitting, by the one or more processors of the network node and to the fabric edge device, an indication that traffic was received by the network node having the destination address corresponding to the endpoint;
• and
• triggering, at least in part by receipt of the indication and at the fabric edge device, an onboarding of the endpoint into the network fabric.
