Abstract
The subject technology enables encryption key distribution when a processor is in offline mode. When offline, key distribution servers can distribute private/public key pairs in place of the processor. The servers can distribute a public key to a user device for encryption of data. The encrypted data can be provided to the processor, which can return a token in response to provide to the first server.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- ascertaining communication from a user device to a payment processor is unavailable and, in response, obtaining, by the user device, a public key from a key distribution server, the key distribution server being in communication with a merchant server;
- encrypting, by the user device, payment information using the public key;
- ascertaining communication from the user device to the payment processor is available;
- in response to transmitting the encrypted payment information to the payment processor, receiving, by the user device and from the payment processor, a token, the token being based on the payment information decrypted using a private key from the key distribution server;
- and
- sending, by the user device, the token to the merchant server for processing as a proxy of the payment information.

An electronic device comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- ascertain communication from a user device to a payment processor is unavailable and, in response, obtaining, by the user device, a public key from a key distribution server, the key distribution server being in communication with a merchant server;
- encrypt, by the user device, payment information using the public key;
- ascertain communication from the user device to the payment processor is available;
- in response to transmitting the encrypted payment information to the payment processor, receive, by the user device and from the payment processor, a token, the token being based on the payment information decrypted using a private key from the key distribution server;
- and
- send, by the user device, the token to the merchant server for processing as a proxy of the payment information.
6 more elements
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising:
- computer-readable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform one or more operations comprising:
- ascertaining communication from a user device to a payment processor is unavailable and, in response, obtaining, by the user device, a public key from a key distribution server, the key distribution server being in communication with a merchant server;
- encrypting, by the user device, payment information using the public key;
- ascertaining communication from the user device to the payment processor is available;
- in response to transmitting the encrypted payment information to the payment processor, receiving, by the user device and from the payment processor, a token, the token being based on the payment information decrypted using a private key from the key distribution server;
- and
- sending, by the user device, the token to the merchant server for processing as a proxy of the payment information.
