A system comprising:

• at least one processor configured to perform operations comprising:
• receiving a video that includes a depiction of one or more real-world objects in a real-world environment;
• generating a three-dimensional (3D) model of the real-world environment;
• adding an augmented reality (AR) item to the video based on the 3D model of the real-world environment;
• and
• indicating that the AR item has been placed in proximity to an interfering real-world object in response to determining that the AR item has been placed in proximity to the interfering real-world object.

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium that includes instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a video that includes a depiction of one or more real-world objects in a real-world environment;
• generating a three-dimensional (3D) model of the real-world environment;
• adding an augmented reality (AR) item to the video based on the 3D model of the real-world environment;
• and
• indicating that the AR item has been placed in proximity to an interfering real-world object in response to determining that the AR item has been placed in proximity to the interfering real-world object.
