Abstract
In non-limiting examples of the present disclosure, systems and methods for dynamically updating contour maps are provided. A first water level for a body of water may be determined by a computing device. A location within the body of water may be identified. A second water level relating to the identified location within the body of water may be determined, and the second water level and the first water level may be compared. Upon comparing the first and second water levels, a contour map for the body of water may be automatically updated.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- at least one processor;
- a display;
- a communication interface;
- and
- a memory operatively connected to the at least one processor, the memory comprising computer executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the processor to:
- cause display of a first contour map on a display, wherein the first contour map includes a plurality of water depth values corresponding to different locations within the body of water;
- determine a location within the body of water;
- determine, from data corresponding to the first contour map, a first water depth value at the determined location within the body of water;
- receive a plurality of water depth value readings at the determined location within the body of water, wherein the plurality of water depth value readings are from at least one of a global position system (GPS) signal, a sonar system, an online database that provides periodic updates regarding the water depth values of the body of water, or tide levels;
- determine from the plurality of water depth value readings an updated water depth value at the determined location within the body of water, wherein the updated water depth value is a more accurate current water depth value at the determined location within the body of water than the first water depth value;
- and
- either:
- update the first contour map for the body of water on the display by replacing the first water depth value with the updated water depth value, or
- cause display, on the display, of a second contour map for the body of water where the updated water depth value is displayed at the determined location.
A method comprising:
- causing display of a first contour map on a display, wherein the first contour map includes a plurality of water depth values corresponding to different locations within the body of water;
- determining a location within the body of water;
- determining, from data corresponding to the first contour map, a first water depth value at the determined location within the body of water;
- receiving a plurality of water depth value readings at the determined location within the body of water, wherein the plurality of water depth value readings are from at least one of a global position system (GPS) signal, a sonar system, an online database that provides periodic updates regarding the water depth values of the body of water, or tide levels;
- determining from the plurality of water depth value readings an updated water depth value at the determined location within the body of water, wherein the updated water depth value is a more accurate current water depth value at the determined location within the body of water than the first water depth value;
- and
- either:
- updating the first contour map for the body of water on the display by replacing the first water depth value with the updated water depth value, or
- causing display, on the display, of a second contour map for the body of water where the updated water depth value is displayed at the determined location.
A computing device comprising:
- at least one processor;
- storage;
- a data reception module configured to receive one or more signals;
- a water level determination module configured to determine, from data corresponding to a first contour map in the storage, a first water depth value at a determined location within a body of water;
- an accuracy determination module configured to:
- receive a plurality of water depth value readings at the determined location within the body of water from the data reception module, wherein the plurality of water depth value readings are from at least one of a global position system (GPS) signal, a sonar system, an online database that provides periodic updates regarding the water depth values of the body of water, or tide levels;
- and
- determine from the plurality of water depth value readings an updated water depth value at the determined location within the body of water, wherein the updated water depth value is a more accurate current water depth value at the determined location within the body of water than the first water depth value;
- and
- a contour map updating module configured to either:
- update the first contour map for the body of water on a display by replacing the first water depth value with the updated water depth value, or
- cause display, on the display, of a second contour map for the body of water where the updated water depth value is displayed at the determined location.
