Abstract

A first epoxy resin composition is described that includes [A] at least one epoxy resin, [B] at least two hardeners comprising [B-1] at least a first hardener and [B-2] at least a second hardener different from the first hardener, and [C] at least one accelerator, wherein the epoxy resin composition satisfies 5.0>|T1−T2|, where [A], [B], [C], T1 and T2 are as defined. A second epoxy resin composition is described that includes [A] at least one epoxy resin, [B] at least two hardeners comprising [B-1] at least one amine compound and [B-2] at least one organic acid hydrazide compound, and [C] at least one accelerator comprising [C-1] at least one organophosphorus compound, where [A], [B] and [C-1] are as defined. A prepreg comprising reinforcing fiber bundles impregnated with the first epoxy resin or the second epoxy resin is also described as well as a fiber-reinforced composite material.

Dependent claims

An epoxy resin composition comprising:

[A] at least one epoxy resin;
[B] at least two hardeners comprising:
[B-1] at least a first hardener;
[B-2] at least a second hardener different from the first hardener;
and
[C] at least one accelerator,
wherein the epoxy resin composition satisfies (I):
5.0>|T1−T2| (I)
where
T1 is an extrapolated onset temperature (° C.) for reaction of a mixture of [A] and [B-1];
T2 is an extrapolated onset temperature (° C.) for reaction of a mixture of [A], [B-1], and [C]
wherein the extrapolated onset temperatures T1 and T2, are determined by differential scanning calorimetry with a heating rate of 10° C./min of the T1 and T2 mixtures having an equivalent ratio of all active hydrogens of [B-1] or [B-2] to all epoxy groups of [A] in the mixtures of 1.0 and a mass ratio of [C] to [A] of 1:100.

wherein:

[C] comprises [C-1] at least one organophosphorus compound, where the component [C-1] accelerates reaction of the component [A] and at least one hardener,
the component [A] is present in an amount of 100 parts by mass, the component [B-2] is present in an amount of 1 to 20 parts by mass, and the component [C-1] is present in an amount of 0.1 to 10 parts by mass, and
an equivalent ratio of all active hydrogens of the [B-1] and [B-2] components to all epoxy groups of the component [A] is 0.7 to 1.3.
