Incrementally updated database server database images and database cloning, using windows virtual hard drives and database server backups

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising stored instructions, the instructions when executed cause one or more computer processors to:

• generate a parent source VHD;
• add a first differencing disk to an active differencing disk chain depending from the parent source VHD;
• add the first differencing disk to an inactive differencing disk chain depending from the parent source VHD;
• create a first clone by cloning the first differencing disk on the active differencing disk chain;
• and
• deliver the first clone to a user.

A computer system comprising:

• one or more computer processors;
• and
• non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising stored instructions, the instructions when executed cause the one or more computer processors to:
• generate a parent source VHD;
• add a first differencing disk to an active differencing disk chain depending from the parent source VHD;
• add the first differencing disk to an inactive differencing disk chain depending from the parent source VHD;
• create a first clone by cloning the first differencing disk on the active differencing disk chain;
• and
• deliver the first clone to a user.
