Abstract
The present invention relates to methods for the in vitro diagnosis of ovarian cancer, and to compositions and methods for the prevention or the treatment of ovarian cancer. Disclosed are compositions that include an antibody binding to progastrin and disclosed are methods that include the use of an antibody binding to progastrin.
Claims23
-15. (canceled)
A method for diagnosing ovarian cancer in a subject, comprising the steps of:
- a) contacting a biological sample from the subject with at least one progastrin-binding antibody,
- b) detecting the binding of the progastrin-binding antibody to progastrin in the sample, wherein the binding indicates the presence of ovarian cancer in the subject;
- and
- wherein the progastrin-binding antibody is a monoclonal antibody or an antigen-binding fragment thereof;
- and
- wherein the progastrin-binding antibody does not bind gastrin-17 (G17), gastrin-34 (G34), glycine-extended gastrin-17 (G17-Gly), or glycine-extended gastrin-34 (G34-Gly).
3 more elements
A method of monitoring the efficacy of a treatment for ovarian cancer in a patient, comprising the steps of:
- a) measuring the concentration of progastrin in a first biological sample obtained from the patient before treatment, comprising:
- contacting the first biological sample with at least one progastrin-binding antibody,
- measuring the binding of the progastrin-binding antibody to progastrin in the first sample;
- and
- b) measuring the concentration of progastrin in a second biological sample obtained from the patient after treatment, comprising:
- contacting the second biological sample with at least one progastrin-binding antibody,
- measuring the binding of the progastrin-binding antibody to progastrin in the second sample;
- and
- c) comparing the concentration of progastrin of step a) with the concentration of progastrin of step b),
- wherein a concentration of progastrin in the first sample higher than the concentration of progastrin in the second sample indicates that the treatment is effective;
- and
- wherein the progastrin-binding antibody is a monoclonal antibody or an antigen-binding fragment thereof;
- and
- wherein the progastrin-binding antibody does not bind gastrin-17 (G17), gastrin-34 (G34), glycine-extended gastrin-17 (G17-Gly), or glycine-extended gastrin-34 (G34-Gly).
