Abstract
Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for optimizing delivery of a small amount of mobile originated (MO) or mobile terminated (MT) data.
Claims16
An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- a first interface configured to output for transmission system information indicating different sets of resources allocated to different coverage levels;
- at least one processor configured to determine a set of resources from the different sets of resources based at least in part on an amount of mobile originated (MO) data a user equipment (UE) has to send;
- and
- a second interface configured to obtain a physical random access channel (PRACH) transmitted by the UE, wherein:
- the first interface is further configured to output for transmission a random access response (RAR) message after the PRACH was obtained, and
- the second interface is further configured to:
- obtain, after the RAR message was output for transmission and independent of a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the UE, a non-access stratum protocol data unit (NAS PDU) from the UE, wherein the NAS PDU includes the amount of MO data encapsulated as the NAS PDU.

An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- means for transmitting system information indicating different sets of resources allocated to different coverage levels;
- means for determining a set of resources from the different sets of resources based at least in part on an amount of mobile originated (MO) data a user equipment (UE) has to send;
- means for receiving, from the UE, a physical random access channel (PRACH);
- means for transmitting a random access response (RAR) message after reception of the PRACH;
- and
- means for receiving, after the RAR message was transmitted and independent of a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the UE, a non-access stratum protocol data unit (NAS PDU) from the UE, wherein the NAS PDU includes the amount of MO data encapsulated as the NAS PDU.

A method for wireless communication, comprising:

- determining a set of resources from the different sets of resources based at least in part on an amount of mobile originated (MO) data a user equipment (UE) has to send;
- receiving, from the UE, a physical random access channel (PRACH);
- transmitting a random access response (RAR) message after receiving the PRACH;
- and
- receiving, after transmitting the RAR message and without establishing a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the UE, a non-access stratum protocol data unit (NAS PDU) from the UE, wherein the NAS PDU includes the amount of MO data encapsulated as the NAS PDU.
