System and method for remote treatment of drug addiction

A system to dispense a consumable comprising:

• a vial with an internal scale and an electronic lock, the vial configured to transmit a weight of contents of the vial and to unlock in response to receipt of an unlock command;
• a plurality of consumables, each of the plurality of consumables including an ingestion sensor configured to transmit an ingestion confirmation signal when exposed to body fluids;
• a sensor reader configured to receive the ingestion confirmation signal from an ingested one of the plurality of consumables;
• and
• a central monitoring location programmed to perform operations including:
• determining whether to unlock the vial based on at least a weight of the contents of the vial and prior receipt of an ingestion confirmation signal from an ingested prior dose of the consumable, and
• issuing an unlock command in response to at least a positive result of the determining.
