Abstract
A catheter can include an extruded shaft that includes a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end and a sidewall that defines at least a portion of the lumen, the sidewall includes a siliconized polycarbonate polyurethane of a specified formulation. Due to the formulation, the sidewall can be alcohol resistant, which can, in some instances, permit alcohol locking of the catheter.
Claims20
A catheter comprising:
- an extruded shaft comprising:
- a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the shaft;
- and
- a sidewall that defines at least a portion of the lumen, the sidewall comprising an alcohol-resistant siliconized polycarbonate polyurethane that comprises:
- a polycarbonate polyol having a structure according to formula (I):
- wherein R is selected from a linear or branched, substituted or unsubstituted C1-C24 alkylene group;
- A is selected from hydrogen (H) or R′OH;
- R′ is selected from a linear or branched, substituted or unsubstituted C1-C24 alkylene group and is either the same as or different from R;
- and n is an integer from 2 to 30;
- a polysiloxane having a structure according to formula (IV):
- wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from a linear C1-C6 alkyl group or a hydrogen group, R3 and R5 are independently selected from a C1-C12 alkylene group, R4 and R6 are independently selected from a C1-C8 alkylene group, and m is an integer from 2 to 30;
- an isocyanate;
- and
- a chain extender,
- the alcohol-resistant siliconized polycarbonate polyurethane comprising:
- a hard segment;
- a soft segment that comprises the polysiloxane in an amount of from 5 wt % to 15 wt %;
- and
- an isocyanate index of from 1.01 to 1.06.
