Abstract
A marker that can be used as biomarker for detection of cancer. More specifically, analysis of genomic DNA damage sensitivity (DDS) as a biomarker for cancer or cancer susceptibility or other disease states characterized by DNA damage response (DDR) disturbances. The biomarker can also be used to study the effect of medication, risk factors and/or environmental impacts on the susceptibility to cancer or more generally to that impair genomic DNA sensitivity (DDS).
Claims12
In vitro or ex vivo use of resistance of genomic DNA against damage by radiation as a biomarker for proliferative diseases and susceptibility thereof, wherein an increased resistance of the genomic DNA is indicative for a proliferative disease and/or increased susceptibility thereof.
An in vitro or ex-vivo method for determining the resistance of genomic DNA against damage by radiation, comprising:
- a) providing a sample containing blood cells,
- b) irradiating the blood cells of the sample,
- c) performing cell lysis, and
- d) determining genomic DNA damage using single cell gel electrophoresis assay.
