A system for supporting services that uses a distributed ledger to record transaction data, the system comprising a block producing node comprising a processor arrangement configured to record a new data block into the distributed ledger, the processor arrangement configured to execute computer-readable program code to: receive a data package comprising transaction data for recording into a new data block of the distributed ledger, the data package bearing a signature arrangement, the signature arrangement being performed externally; validate the signature arrangement of the received data package; determine whether consensus is present through a sufficient number of other block producing nodes in the system having also received the data package and validated its signature arrangement; and record the transaction data from the received data package into a new data block of the distributed ledger, in response to confirmation of the consensus being present.
