A polyamide comprising:

• a structural unit represented by General Formula [1A],
• in General Formula [1A],
• R1 represents a tetravalent organic group represented by General Formula [2], and
• R2 represents a divalent organic group,
• in General Formula [2],
• two n’s are each independently an integer of 0 to 3,
• in a case where a plurality of R3′s are present, the plurality of R3′s each independently represent a monovalent substituent, and
• *1, *2, *3, and *4 each independently represent a bonding site, in which one of *1 and *2 is bonded to an oxygen atom in a hydroxy group of General Formula [1A] and the other is bonded to a nitrogen atom in General Formula [1A], and one of *3 and *4 is bonded to an oxygen atom in a hydroxy group of General Formula [1A] and the other is bonded to a nitrogen atom in General Formula [1A].

A method for producing a polybenzoxazole, the method comprising:

• a first step of producing a polyamide;
• and
• a second step of dehydrating and ring-closing the polyamide obtained in the first step, wherein,
• the polybenzolxazole comprises:
• a structural unit represented by General Formula [1],
• the polyamide comprises:
• a structural unit represented by General Formula [1A],
• wherein in General Formula [1] and General Formula [1A],
• R1 is a tetravalent organic group represented by General Formula [2], and
• R2 is a divalent organic group,
• in General Formula [2],
• two n’s are each independently an integer of 0 to 3.
• in a case where a plurality of R3′s are present, the plurality of R3′s each independently represent a monovalent substituent, and
• *1, *2, *3, and *4 each independently represent a bonding site, in which one of *1 and *2 is bonded to an oxygen atom in both General Formula [1] and General Formula [1A] and the other is bonded to a nitrogen atom in both General Formula [1] and General Formula [1A], and one of *3 and *4 is bonded to an oxygen atom in both General Formula [1] and General Formula [1A] and the other is bonded to a nitrogen atom in both General Formula [1] and General Formula [1A]:
• and wherein
• the first step comprises:
• a step of polycondensing a diamine represented by General Formula [DA] or a salt of the diamine with a dicarboxylic acid represented by General Formula [DC1] or [DC2] or a derivative of the dicarboxylic acid,
• in General Formula [DA], n and R3 are the same as n and R3 in General Formula [2],
• in General Formula [DC1], R2 is the same as R2 in General Formula [1A], and two A’s are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or an aromatic hydrocarbon group having 6 to 10 carbon atoms,
• in General Formula [DC2], R2 is the same as R2 in General Formula [1A], and two X’s are each independently a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom, an iodine atom, or an active ester group.
