Encoding output for streaming applications based on client upscaling capabilities

A system comprising:

• one or more processing units to execute operations comprising:
• receiving feedback from a client device indicating a quality level of one or more upscaled versions of one or more output frames relative to one or more sources frames used to generate the one or more output frames, the one or more upscaled versions being generated, using the client device, from one or more streams of output data to the client device, and the quality level computed using the one or more upscaled versions of the one or more output frames and the one or more sources frames;
• updating a configuration of one or more encoding parameters used to encode the one or more output frames using the one or more source frames for the one or more streams of output data based at least on the quality level;
• and
• generating at least a portion the one or more streams of output data according to the configuration of the one or more encoding parameters.
