Redundant generic object oriented substation event (goose) messages

A non-transitory, computer readable medium comprising instructions configured to be executed by a processor to cause the processor to:

• obtain, via an intelligent electronic device (IED), actual power system data of a power system;
• obtain test data of a test of the power system, wherein the test data and the actual power system data are used as inputs to protection logic of the IED;
• during a test operation, publish a first Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) message with a dataset based on the protection logic of the IED being applied to the actual power system data;
• during the test operation, publish a second GOOSE message with a dataset based on the protection logic of the IED being applied to the test data;
• during the test operation, the first GOOSE message and the second GOOSE message are redundant communications;
• and
• protecting the power system during the test operation.

An intelligent electronic device (IED), comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• a processor operatively coupled to the memory, wherein the processor is configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause operations comprising:
• obtaining actual power system data of a power system;
• obtaining test data of the power system, wherein the test data and the actual power system data provide inputs to protection logic of the IED;
• publishing a first Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) message that comprises:
• a dataset based on the protection logic of the IED being applied to the actual power system data;
• and
• a first virtual area network (VLAN) identifier indicating that the actual power system data is based on live measurements from the power system;
• and
• publishing a second GOOSE message that comprises:
• a dataset based on the protection logic of the IED being applied to the test data;
• and
• a second VLAN identifier indicating that the test data is based on the test data inputs to the IED.
