Log likelihood ratio based rate adaptation through turbo-harq

An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the memory, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:
• transmit a data packet transmission over a wireless channel;
• receive a message that indicates a transmission rank or a channel quality indicator index for the wireless channel, wherein the transmission rank or the channel quality indicator index is based on a set of log likelihood ratios that are based on the data packet transmission;
• and
• retransmit at least a portion of the data packet transmission over the wireless channel using an updated transmission parameter, wherein the updated transmission parameter is based on the transmission rank or the channel quality indicator index.

A method of wireless communication, comprising:

• transmitting a data packet transmission over a wireless channel;
• receiving a message that indicates a transmission rank or a channel quality indicator index for the wireless channel, wherein the transmission rank or the channel quality indicator index is based on a set of log likelihood ratios that are based on the data packet transmission;
• and
• retransmit at least a portion of the data packet transmission over the wireless channel using an updated transmission parameter, wherein the updated transmission parameter is based on the transmission rank or the channel quality indicator index.
