Abstract
The present disclosure generally relates to methods and compositions for obtaining magnetic resonance images of labelled cells. The methods include internalizing a superparamagentic iron oxide nanoparticle within a desired population of cells and then observing the cells through the contrast provided in magnetic resonance imaging. The methods are applicable for in vivo use to monitor desired cells types.
Claims17
A method for obtaining a magnetic resonance image (MRI) of a cell, comprising:
- obtaining a cellular sample and binding to one or more cells therein a nanoparticle comprised of an antibody or active fragment thereof to a cell surface protein covalently linked to at least one superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle;
- incubating the one or more cells for a period of time from about 5 minutes to 24 hours or more and/or stimulating the one or more cells with an agonist to cause the nanoparticle to be internalized;
- and,
- obtaining at least one MRI of the one or more cells.
A nanoparticle for MRI comprised of a superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle covalently linked to an antibody or active fragment thereof, wherein the antibody or active fragment thereof recognizes a cell surface protein.
