Railroad energy delivery system

A method for transporting electrical energy from an electrical energy generation facility to an electrical energy consumption facility via rail, the method comprising:

• positioning a train comprising at least one rail car loaded with at least one battery system at the energy generation facility such that at least one contactor of the at least one battery system contacts a third rail of the energy generation facility;
• charging batteries of the at least one battery system with electricity transferred from the energy generation facility to the at least one battery system via the at least one contactor;
• relocating the train via one or more rail lines to an energy consumption facility that is remote from the energy generation facility;
• positioning the train such that the at least one contactor of the at least one battery system is aligned with a third rail of the energy consumption facility;
• and
• transferring energy from the batteries of the at least one battery system to the energy consumption facility via the at least one contactor and third rail.
